British fashion designer John Galliano once stated, "The joy of dressing is an art." For some of the best in our region as far as the art of dressing and fashion is concerned, head over to FL Crooks & Co. located at 539 Main Street in Clarion, PA. Established in 1905 by F.L. Crooks, great uncle of present day owner Jim Crooks, the landmark store will be celebrating 120 years of business in 2025.
FL Crooks & Co. has evolved over the years to carry a full array of clothing for men and women for a variety of needs - from business suits to sportswear - with incredible footwear and dazzling jewelry to round out the incredible selection offered. There is even some great outerwear and shoes for the kids too.
Volume was up slightly for the year 2024, keeping the ten employees busy, offering personal service and thoughtful expertise to their valued customers who truly make this a destination store.
Improvements for the 2024 calendar year included an entire sidewalk upgrade along the 6th Avenue side of the store.
In the Women's division, manager Darla Friedlund pointed out that the French Dressing line of clothing is "gonna be on fire" this year. She pointed out that these top quality tops and pants from the Montreal based company are only sold to specialty stores like FL Crooks & Co. Joseph Ribkoff garments continue to amaze and delight.
Furthermore, Darla pointed out that "we have really built up the Gabor line of footwear with exceptional offerings of loafers and boots". The NEXGrip boots with the cleats are terrific in slippery winter conditions. Other footwear lines include the ever popular Dansko, Naot, Spring Step, L'Artiste, Birkenstock, and Merrell.
As far as jewelry is concerned, Pandora is on the upswing again with their charm bracelets, necklaces, rings, and gift sets all selling well. The cultured pearls highlighted have been a welcome addition to this incredible line of jewelry. Brighton continues to please with contemporary designs offerings continually introduced. Mariana jewelry dazzles. Ania Haie continues to sell well.
For the college students, Mona b features trendy fashion clothing at moderate prices.
Over on the Men's side of FL Crooks & Co., tailor made suits and custom shirts are available as well as tried and true favorites like Patagonia, The North Face, Kavu, Kuhl,
Pendleton, Barbour, Tommy Bahama, etc. Howler Bros. was added with much enthusiasm.
Johnston & Murphy footwear is magic for the feet, comfort and style maximized.
The volume of the internet phase of the store, flcrooks.com, was also up slightly for the 2024 year. With its inception in 1998, the online division continues to be viable and an important part of the overall operation.

FL Crooks & Company - 1st Place Regional Award of Excellence Winner!
FL Crooks & Co. was recently named a 1st Place Regional Award of Excellence Winner in the 2023 International Best Brochure Competition. The rack card, entitled More Than a Haberdashery, was entered in a field of over 19,000 brochures which was then narrowed down to a field of 63. The double sided brochure was designed by FL Crooks & Co. team member Karl Jacobson, a talented local artist.
